I am not an M/M reader. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have read an M/M book. But sometimes you just need to be brave and get out of your comfort zone, and there is where A.M. Johnson plays an important role because she is the only author that makes me read something I do not usually read.Why? Because LOVE IS LOVE, and she knows how to make you feel it so deep in your bones that it is difficult not to fall in love with both the book and its characters.Love Always, Wild is an MM romance that deals with not only the stigma against gays, but also focuses on the ache of self-doubts, first love, forgiveness, healing, and the power of love.There is no doubt Jax and Wilder were soulmates—their love was the kind of love that you just find once in a lifetime. Jax and Wilder met in college, Wilder was Jax's tutor. Jax was the popular basketball star. Wilder was the emo out and proud kid. They came from two different worlds but became each other's entire world. Until tragedy ripped them apart and Jax completely disappearing from Wild's life without a word. Nine years later they are still in drastically different worlds but their feelings for one another are still the same . . . if they can both move on from all that holds them apart.From the very beginning of this book I was pulled in and knew that it was going to be an emotional ride. I was not wrong. These two pulled at all of the strings. I could feel Jax's heartbreak, pain and guilt. I will never understand his ghosting but I will also never completely understand his guilt so I get it. If that makes any sense. Wilder was a grumpy sour puss that I adored. His grump made me laugh. I loved how much he had grown, was comfortable in his own skin and was a beacon of hope and encouragement for Jordan. Their exchanges were funny and sweet. But yet at the same time he was emotionally stunted. You could feel his heartbreak from losing Jax all those years ago. You could feel that he was still in love with him and couldn't get over him. There was nothing easy and simple about Jax and Wilder which I think is my favorite thing and most painful thing about this book. Their struggles felt so real. It didn't feel like I was reading a work of fiction. Their struggles and heartache and love felt so real.Wilder took the first leap of faith in forgiving Jax and giving him a second chance but Jax had the longer jump in changing and uprooting his whole life to be with the one he loved more than anything in the world. And man was it a beautiful ride. I loved every single thing about this book. This author has a way of writing real life, the good, the bad, the sad and the ugly and making it all beautiful. This book is a top read for me this year. I will sing it's praises from the highest mountain.
