I’ve read both the Thirds series and now the Four Kings series from Charlie Cochet. And I so wanted to love this book, but quite honestly it bored me most of the time.It seems like each of the books follows the same script just with different characters, that still look way too much like one another personality wise. So I basically feel like I’m constantly reading the same book over and over again in this series. And as with the Thirds series, the minor characters interests me far more than the main ones (Dex and Sloan were boring after book 3), and I actually look forward to reading about Jack, Joker and Frank later on.But these main books are pretty much the same: two main characters meet through some sort of job, they fall for one another, have funny times, stuff and dangerous things happen, good guys win, happy ending! Yay!Now, I love me some HEA like no other. And I love romance, that’s why I read MM Romance. But I would like to not be bored and not feel like I am constantly reading the same script. The characters are different, make the stories that, too. Let the characters shine! I never felt like King or Leo shined in this book and more that I read about 2D characters. I get humour and I love humour in a book, but at some point ramblings and acting like you’re a kid when you’re actually 40 does not become funny anymore.So, I’m very much looking forward to the three spin-offs in this series and how they will be written. I’m hoping and crossing my fingers for something new from Charlie Cochet, because she has the writing skills to pull it off, there is no doubt about that. I've read the previous three books in this series and have a strong fondness for the main characters each time, but the stories follow the same basic premise each time - nothing new here. I was so looking forward to reading about a romance with King as the man finally finding his HEA. But, the author turns the strong, gruff, ex-Green Bret into a soft pussycat falling in love with a nerdy, emotionally-distressed techno-geek. This combo seemed improbable to me. Another thing about this story that I found unbelievable was the confrontation/fight scene between the Russian operatives, King and Bowers. The operatives storm the condo and King is single-handedly able to fight off over a dozen men with guns? Why didn't they just shoot and kill King since he was of no use to them? It didn't make sense. And why did Bowers let Leo keep the gun he snatched from him after he was able to get another gun from one of his own men? And when King was thrown a gun by Leo, why didn't he shoot Bowers in the head instead of firing several shots into his bulletproof vest and knocking him down a flight of steps? That whole fight scene didn't make sense. Also, what happened to the wedding on Valentine's Day that King and Leo were supposed to attend? That was never written about after it was mentioned as a big deal? And did Leo ever get to top King as was hinted at possibly happening? The author alluded to several plot points that were never fleshed out. As much as I like the character of King and wanted him to have an epic love story, I was very disappointed in this book.
